Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are reportedly seeking two properties as part of their departure from the Royal Lodge. The 65-year-old prince is said to be in talks to vacate his 30-room Royal Lodge voluntarily due to the controversy surrounding the nominal rent he currently pays for the Windsor property.
According to sources, Andrew is negotiating with royal aides but is hesitant to give up his residence of over two decades. The main points of contention include the location of his new home and financial compensation for the lodge renovations.
In discussions with the Palace, Prince Andrew has expressed interest in acquiring Frogmore Cottage, which was previously occupied by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Meanwhile, his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who currently resides with Andrew at the mansion, is looking to move into nearby Adelaide Cottage once Prince William and Kate vacate next month.
A friend of the couple reportedly mentioned that both properties offer adequate space for their daughters Eugenie and Beatrice to visit with their families. The Mirror has reached out to Buckingham Palace and Prince Andrew’s representatives for comments on the matter.
Reports suggest that Prince William is insisting on Andrew’s departure from the Royal Lodge by Bonfire Night. As William and Princess Kate prepare to move into Forest Lodge nearby, it is believed that William wants Andrew out of the residence before their arrival.
MPs are poised to discuss Prince Andrew’s conduct, his mansion, and the potential stripping of his dukedom in upcoming parliamentary debates. The issue could be raised on a day when ministers do not control the parliamentary timetable.
There is a possibility that the Liberal Democrats may use their opposition days to allow MPs to debate Andrew’s behavior. While Andrew has relinquished the use of his Duke of York title, a parliamentary law is required to formally revoke it.
