“Doctor Who” Star Alex Kingston Opens Up About Motherhood Struggles

Alex Kingston, known for her role in “Doctor Who,” has shared her challenging journey to motherhood, describing it as a difficult path. Last year, the actress disclosed her struggle with womb cancer, leading to a hysterectomy and subsequent radiotherapy treatments.

After undergoing the necessary medical procedures, the 62-year-old expressed feeling like herself again and in better health than she had been in years. Apart from her recent health battle, Kingston also reflected on her arduous experience with IVF to conceive her daughter, Salome Violetta Haertel, born in 2001 to her former husband, Florian Haertel, a German writer and freelance journalist she met through mutual connections.

Reportedly, Kingston underwent about 13 rounds of IVF before successfully conceiving Salome. She emphasized the emotional turmoil and desperation that accompanied the fertility treatments, highlighting the uncertainty of long-term effects. Discussing her fertility struggles in the past, she revealed concerns about infertility issues during her first marriage and the subsequent diagnosis of unexplained fertility problems which led to the decision to pursue IVF.

Throughout her life, Kingston has been married three times, first to actor Ralph Fiennes, then to Florian, and currently to Jonathan Stamp. Describing her current husband, she praised his organizational skills, highlighting their complementary nature as individuals with different backgrounds and interests.

Currently, Alex Kingston is showcasing her dance skills on “Strictly Come Dancing” alongside professional dancer Johannes Radebe, delivering impressive performances. Recently, she received high praise for her Rumba technique, earning her first 10 of the series from judge Shirley Ballas. Her Foxtrot performance during Icons week, where she portrayed Dolly Parton, continued to captivate the audience and judges.

As the competition progresses, another celebrity is set to bid farewell tonight following Chris Robshaw’s exit last week. Viewers can catch “Strictly Come Dancing: The Results” airing at 7.15pm on BBC One.
