Anthony Joshua has returned to England following a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two individuals. The renowned British heavyweight boxer arrived at London Stansted Airport on Friday evening and was then transported to his residence for further recovery, according to reports from the Sun.
The funeral for Joshua’s close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, is scheduled to take place at a mosque in London. A ‘janaza prayer service’ has been arranged for family and friends to pay their respects to the departed friends.
There is uncertainty surrounding Joshua’s attendance at the funeral, with concerns that his presence could attract unwarranted attention. Joshua narrowly escaped the fatal crash by switching seats just moments before the journey that tragically claimed the lives of his friends. While the boxer sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized, his friends lost their lives in the incident.
The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Kayode’s legal representative stated that the incident was deemed an accident and that the brakes allegedly malfunctioned. Joshua had initially been seated in the front but was asked to change places due to visibility issues. The driver then collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
After being discharged from the hospital, Joshua paid his respects to Ghami and Ayodele at a funeral home. He later accompanied his mother to the funeral home where the bodies of his deceased friends were kept before being repatriated to the United Kingdom. Adeniyi’s case is set for trial on January 20 after providing an official statement regarding the events leading up to the crash.
