Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps has released new photographs from the scene of a tragic accident involving British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua. The organization has also given a detailed account of the incident that resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
Anthony Joshua was hospitalized after being extricated from the wreckage of the SUV he was traveling in with a driver and other passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Nigeria on Monday morning. An update from the Ogun State police indicates that an investigation is ongoing, with additional information coming from the FRSC.
On Monday, December 29, at 2:10 pm GMT, the organization posted four new images of the damaged SUV and the truck it crashed into on the X platform. The pictures show officials at the scene alongside witnesses, with the rear of the truck covered with tape.
In a statement spread over multiple posts, the FRSC confirmed the fatal crash involving Anthony Joshua and a truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The incident, which occurred near Sagamu, resulted in two fatalities, one injured person, and two unharmed individuals. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was rescued alive.
The injured victim was taken for medical treatment, and the deceased were transported to Livewell Morgue in Sagamu. The police were notified for further investigation.
The FRSC mentioned that the vehicle carrying Joshua was speeding, leading to the crash. They emphasized the dangers of speeding and reckless overtaking on Nigerian highways.
The FRSC extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua a swift recovery. They urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, avoid dangerous driving behaviors, and prioritize safety, especially during festive periods.
