In the early hours of the morning, a criminal threatened a baby with a piece of broken glass during a carjacking incident in Belfast city center. The baby was in the back seat of the car with its mother while the father stepped out to make a delivery around 3:50 am.
Two men approached the vehicle on foot, with one entering the driver’s seat and driving off with the mother and child still inside. Shortly after, the man turned and held what appeared to be a broken bottle or glass to the baby’s head, demanding the mother to exit the car. Once the mother and baby were out, the criminal fled in the stolen vehicle, which was later found abandoned on a nearby residential street.
Police have labeled the event as “absolutely shocking” and “extremely distressing,” urging anyone with information or witnesses to come forward. Detective Sergeant McVeagh stated that the delivery driver left his partner and baby in the car when it was taken, and despite the victims being shaken, they were thankfully unharmed. Investigations are currently ongoing.
