Keir Starmer has strongly criticized Nigel Farage, urging him to thoroughly investigate any potential connections between Reform and Russia.
During a parliamentary session, Starmer expressed astonishment and concern over a former high-ranking member of Farage’s party, Nathan Gill, being sentenced to over ten years in prison for accepting Russian bribes. Starmer emphasized the need for Reform UK to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover any additional links to such activities.
Responding to Tory leader Kemi Badenoch’s criticism of Reform, Starmer highlighted the incompatibility of Reform’s pro-Putin stance with global diplomatic efforts. Badenoch had pointed out recent incidents involving Russian vessels in British waters and accused Reform of blaming NATO for Russian aggression.
Pressure is mounting on Farage to delve into whether Gill’s misconduct was an isolated incident. Gill, a former UKIP and Brexit Party MEP, admitted to accepting bribes from pro-Russia entities.
Reform UK’s deputy leader, Richard Tice, condemned Vladimir Putin as a “vile dictator” and dismissed criticisms as mere distractions. Tice reiterated his and Reform’s unwavering support for Ukraine, citing personal contributions to aid Ukrainian soldiers.
Farage, in response to inquiries, emphasized that his party is not an investigative authority. Gill had received substantial payments from a pro-Russia Ukrainian figure, Oleg Voloshyn, on behalf of Viktor Medvedchuk, a close associate of Putin who faced treason charges and was later exchanged to Russia following the 2022 Russian invasion.
