A new trend in high fashion is emerging with the introduction of clothing infused with bacteria. This unique collection includes leggings, bodysuits, and tops that are priced between £150 and £180 each. The designers behind this innovative line, Paris-based brand Coperni and Swiss biotech experts, claim that these garments contain live bacteria cells that can help balance the skin’s protective barrier and enhance its natural radiance.
Known as Carewear, this collection features stretch fabric with approximately 140,000 live bacteria cells per gram, which are gradually absorbed by the skin during wear. The active ingredients in the clothing are designed to withstand up to 40 washes, ensuring longevity. The concept for Carewear originated from Coperni’s founders, Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer, who envisioned clothing that not only dresses but also cares for the wearer by nurturing the skin as a living organ.
The designers emphasized the importance of considering the invisible aspects of clothing, such as how it interacts with the body and supports overall well-being. They envision a future where garments go beyond mere style to become companions in wellness and reflections of a more mindful lifestyle. Prior to release, the materials underwent rigorous testing for comfort and skin compatibility.
Coperni is no stranger to bold and unconventional creations. In a previous show, they collaborated with a technology company to showcase a groundbreaking performance where model Bella Hadid appeared nude on the runway before being “sprayed” with a white outfit. This daring presentation garnered acclaim from fashion critics and left a lasting impression on fashion enthusiasts.
In another unexpected move, Coperni featured robot dogs assisting models during their Fall Winter 2023 show, exploring the fusion of technology and humanity. The collection also included bags crafted from a 55,000-year-old lunar meteorite, showcasing the brand’s commitment to innovation and creativity.
Among the celebrities known to embrace Coperni’s avant-garde designs are Gigi Hadid, Billie Eilish, Hailey Bieber, Megan Fox, Kylie Jenner, Rihanna, Doja Cat, and Sydney Sweeney. The brand continues to push boundaries and redefine the fashion landscape with its bold and visionary approach to design.
