England Rugby Stands by Captain Maro Itoje amid Tragic Loss

England’s national rugby team has pledged their support for captain Maro Itoje following the tragic passing of his mother, Florence. Itoje recently revealed the sad news of his mother’s death in December and has traveled to Nigeria for her funeral.

The 31-year-old player missed Saracens’ Premiership game against Newcastle to be with his family in Nigeria. Additionally, he was absent from the Six Nations launch in Edinburgh, where his friend Jamie George filled in for media responsibilities.

George, who has also lost his mother during a previous Six Nations, empathized with Itoje’s situation, emphasizing the need for him to take time to grieve and heal before returning to the team fully prepared.

England is preparing for their upcoming game against Wales at Twickenham and is currently at a warm-weather training camp in Girona. Itoje is expected to join his teammates in Spain after bidding farewell to his mother. Head coach Steve Borthwick expressed his confidence in Itoje’s emotional readiness for the tournament.

Itoje shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, honoring his mother’s life and impact on him and his family. Despite the profound loss, he finds solace in his faith and believes his mother is watching over them from heaven.

The team and coaching staff are standing by Itoje during this difficult time, recognizing his strength as a leader and eagerly anticipating his return to the squad.
