Brenda Blethyn recently shared insights into her unique living situation with her spouse of 15 years following her departure from the long-running ITV series where she portrayed DCI Vera Stanhope for 14 years.
In a surprising announcement last year, Brenda declared her decision to step away from the role, with her final scenes airing earlier this year in a festive special and a two-part series. She expressed gratitude for her time on the show, praising the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work and camaraderie.
Now, Brenda has shed light on her post-Vera life, revealing that she and her husband Michael Mayhew reside in the same Kent building but in separate apartments due to their differing preferences. The actress humorously recounted their apartment swap to better accommodate their temperature preferences, emphasizing that their unconventional living arrangement works seamlessly for them.
Brenda had previously explained that her choice to leave Vera was driven by a desire to spend more quality time with her family after dedicating many years to the series. Reflecting on her decision, she acknowledged the importance of balancing work commitments with personal relationships, expressing love for both her on-screen and off-screen families.
Having completed 14 series on Vera, Brenda reflected on her initial reluctance to continue beyond the 13th season but ultimately agreeing to a few more episodes at ITV’s behest to conclude the series.
