Families have reported suffering severe food poisoning symptoms after consuming Sunday lunch at a well-liked pub.
Visitors to The Cwrt Henllys Bar and Restaurant in Cwmbran, South Wales, experienced illness shortly after partaking in the roast dinner on October 5.
One expectant mother recounted awakening in the night feeling extremely unwell with intense stomach pains, fearing she was having a miscarriage.
Health officials have confirmed the presence of clostridium perfringens in samples taken from 19 affected individuals, a bacterium known to cause severe food poisoning.
A family shared that eight out of their party of 13 fell ill on that day, with even their pet dog becoming sick after consuming the leftovers.
A representative from Torfaen Council stated that investigations revealed the food poisoning outbreak was due to clostridium perfringens and assured that no further cases have been reported since the incident on October 5, 2025, posing no broader public health risk.
According to the Food Standards Agency, clostridium perfringens, commonly found in animals and the environment, is typically contracted by humans through consumption of contaminated meat or poultry left at inadequate temperatures.
The bacterium can form spores that survive cooking and multiply during improper cooling and storage, leading to illness. Outbreaks often occur in scenarios with large gatherings or food services where maintaining proper food temperatures is challenging.
Those at higher risk of severe symptoms include young children, pregnant women, individuals with underlying health conditions like cancer, diabetes, liver, or kidney disease, and older adults.
