British authorities have sent officers to India in pursuit of a man accused of killing his wife in the UK. The victim, Harshita Brella, 24, was strangled in Northamptonshire and later found in a car in East London last November. She had sought help from the police due to abuse by her spouse, Pankaj Lamba, before her tragic death.
Investigators traveled to India to meet Harshita’s family and return her belongings while Indian law enforcement continues the search for Lamba. Detective Superintendent Johnny Campbell expressed condolences to Harshita’s family and highlighted the ongoing support provided by the Northamptonshire Police.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct is looking into the interactions between Northamptonshire Police and the deceased. Lamba, aged 23, reportedly flew to India from Heathrow airport shortly before his wife’s body was discovered. He was captured on CCTV withdrawing money from an ATM in Gurugram, as per local media reports.
Following a murder investigation, Lamba, identified as Harshita’s husband, was charged with her murder by the Crown Prosecution Service. The case is intricate, and with legal proceedings underway in the UK, detailed information cannot be disclosed at this time. However, efforts to bring justice to Harshita’s family continue with the cooperation of Indian authorities.
In an emotional account, Harshita’s mother, Sudesh Kumari, revealed her daughter’s distress before the tragic event, stating that Harshita had expressed fear for her life due to her husband’s behavior. Describing Harshita as a simple and innocent individual, Sudesh mourned the loss of her daughter.
