“Storm Benjamin: UK Braces for 75mph Winds”

The Met Office has issued fresh weather alerts for Storm Benjamin, expected to bring gusts of up to 75mph across Britain. Yellow warnings have been issued for southern England, the east Midlands, Wales, and Yorkshire, lasting until 9pm tomorrow. The storm, officially named Storm Benjamin, is forecasted to bring heavy rain over a 21-hour period, potentially causing travel disruptions, floods, power outages, and building damage.

Following Storm Amy earlier this month, a new wind warning is in place for tomorrow, covering the east of England up to Scarborough. Additionally, another yellow alert for wind on Thursday includes South West England and parts of Wales. Meteorologist Aidan McGivern from the Met Office warns of strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 60-70mph in some areas.

British Weather Services’ senior meteorologist Jim Dale cautions of potential structural wind damage and flooding on Thursday, advising people in central and eastern England to stay indoors. The Met Office also warns of strong winds and rain moving northwards from Wednesday evening onwards, with multiple weather warnings expected for rain and wind over the next 24 hours.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris states that low pressure moving across the south of the UK on Thursday will bring heavy rain and strong winds. The rain is projected to spread northeast from the southwest, leading to difficult driving conditions and a risk of flooding in some areas. Coastal areas in the south are expected to experience increased winds.
