“Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face staff turnover as key aides depart”

In a short span of time, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have experienced the departure of two key aides: chief communications officer Meredith Maines and James Holt, who previously headed their organization, Archewell.

Holt had been overseeing the couple’s PR affairs from 2019 to 2021 before shifting focus to support the Sussexes in their charitable work post their royal exit in 2020. On the other hand, Maines resigned after a brief 10-month tenure with Harry and Meghan. Her exit marks the eleventh publicist to part ways with the Sussexes in the last five years.

Following Holt’s resignation, reports indicated that he chose to step down to spend more time in London with his family. In a statement, Holt expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with the Duke and Duchess, highlighting their joint efforts in various impactful projects over the years.

Maines also announced her departure shortly after Holt, stating her decision to pursue a new endeavor in 2026 after a year of fulfilling work with Harry and Meghan. She acknowledged the couple’s positive impact on the world and her appreciation for their teamwork.

The turnover of key staff within the Sussex team has raised questions about the challenges faced by aides working closely with Harry and Meghan, with some past employees reportedly seeking therapy due to a perceived toxic and draining work environment. Despite these claims, the Sussexes have denied allegations of bullying.

Critics point out the ambiguity in Harry and Meghan’s messaging to the public, questioning whether they prioritize privacy or publicity and whether they aim to be celebrities or dignitaries. The couple’s varied ventures, including engagements with Netflix, charity initiatives, and interactions with Hollywood figures, have left observers puzzled about their direction.

As the search for a new public relations representative commences, Liam Maguire, the couple’s UK and Europe communications director, is set to assume a more prominent role in managing publicity matters. With uncertainties surrounding the Sussexes’ plans for 2026, the appointment of a new PR expert reflects a pivotal moment as they navigate their future endeavors amidst ongoing public scrutiny and evolving priorities.
