“Ronnie O’Sullivan Aims for Dual World Titles at 50”

Ronnie O’Sullivan, aged 50, is set to make a historic bid this year by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible within a month. He has recently registered for the World Seniors Snooker Championship, showcasing his enduring competitiveness on the tour. The snooker veteran will not only face current senior circuit players but also strive to clinch his eighth World Championship title in his 34th consecutive appearance during the upcoming spring tournament.

Scheduled to debut at the senior event starting on May 6 in Yorkshire, O’Sullivan’s participation has been confirmed by the World Seniors Snooker Tour. Described as one of the sport’s most commercially successful and captivating figures, O’Sullivan is expected to lead the strongest-ever field in a World Seniors event. Alongside O’Sullivan, other renowned players such as Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty will compete in the championship.

The lineup for the tournament will feature notable names like Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, Tony Drago, and more, including the current Seniors British Open Champion Joe Perry. The Chairman of the event, Jason Francis, expressed excitement over O’Sullivan’s debut and the increased ticket demand driven by the presence of the snooker legend.

Following the 2025 World Championship, the World Snooker Tour relaxed rules allowing professional players aged 45 or older, ranked in the top 64, to participate in the veterans circuit. O’Sullivan, with seven world titles to his name, will aim to secure another victory after his last triumph in 2022, tying Stephen Hendry’s record. Despite Hendry’s achievements, he has expressed support for O’Sullivan’s pursuit of an eighth world title, emphasizing the significance of winning a championship at a young age.

In a podcast with the World Snooker Tour, Hendry mentioned his pride in holding certain records and his openness to O’Sullivan surpassing his accomplishments. Reflecting on past performances, O’Sullivan has consistently showcased his prowess in the sport, maintaining his status as a formidable contender in the world of snooker.
