Sugababes member Mutya Buena has shared that postnatal depression played a role in her decision to leave the popular band. The 40-year-old singer departed from the group in late 2005 shortly after the birth of her daughter Tahlia-May and was replaced by Amelle Berrabah.
Following her exit, Mutya later reunited with former bandmates Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy to embark on tours and create new music together. In a recent interview, Mutya discussed her departure from the group, mentioning that she would have stayed if she had been given some time off to relax.
During discussions with Glamour UK, Keisha reflected on the challenges the group faced over the years but expressed gratitude for the opportunities they were given. The trio faced obstacles during their comeback without the iconic Sugababes name earlier this year.
The original members shocked fans in 2011 when they announced their reunion, marking their first time performing together since Donaghy’s departure in 2011. Following Keisha’s departure in 2009, the original members regrouped under the name MKS, delivering sold-out performances and releasing new music.
In 2019, the band successfully reclaimed the legal rights to use the Sugababes name, leading to a resurgence in their popularity. Reflecting on their return in an exclusive chat with the Mirror, Siobhan described the legacy of the group as “amazing,” highlighting the pressure and motivation that comes with creating new music.
Mutya emphasized the importance of giving back to their loyal fans, while Keisha stressed the significance of continuing where they left off. The trio aimed to provide their supporters with a different and satisfying conclusion to their journey.
