Sainsbury’s has decided to discontinue its Chop Chop rapid delivery app and merge its functionalities into the main Sainsbury’s app. The Chop Chop service, introduced in 2016, aimed to provide grocery deliveries within 60 minutes in select Sainsbury’s stores.
Customers who were accustomed to using the standalone Chop Chop app may have observed its removal from app stores. Instead, users attempting to download it are now directed to the primary Sainsbury’s app for their delivery needs.
Jim Banks, Sainsbury’s Head of Experience Design, highlighted the streamlining of services for customers by decommissioning the Chop Chop app. The move aims to simplify the shopping experience and reduce the need for customers to navigate between different apps.
Banks expressed gratitude towards the teams involved in integrating Chop Chop into the Sainsbury’s app, emphasizing the collaborative effort to enhance the shopping ecosystem. The consolidation is viewed as a significant advancement in making shopping more straightforward, relaxing, and customer-centric.
Chop Chop previously competed with Tesco’s Whoosh rapid delivery service, offering swift delivery times as short as 20 minutes. In other supermarket developments in the UK, Co-op has unveiled plans to launch 18 new or revamped stores in the initial quarter of 2026.
The inaugural Co-op store for 2026 will open in the newly developed Willowbrook Park neighborhood in Didcot, Oxfordshire. Additionally, several stores are set to reopen after renovations, including locations in Eastern Green, Coventry, and Ealing, London.
Kate McCrae, Co-op Operations Director, highlighted the company’s focus on fostering community hubs through its local stores. The emphasis is on providing quality products, value, and a diverse range of deals to cater to the needs of customers and members.
Co-op’s expansion strategy for 2026 includes the creation of numerous apprenticeship opportunities. The retail chain has committed £70 million through its Levy Share service to establish 7,000 matched apprenticeships by 2030, demonstrating its dedication to workforce development and growth.
