“Man convicted of murdering pregnant girlfriend over abortion refusal”

A man has been convicted of first-degree murder for killing his pregnant girlfriend, who refused to undergo an abortion. Donovan Faison was found guilty of murdering 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo. The incident occurred in 2022, and Kaylin’s body was discovered with a gunshot wound in a parked car on November 11 of that year.

After a brief two-hour deliberation, the jury reached a verdict against Faison. Investigations revealed that Kaylin, who was three months pregnant at the time of her death, had disagreements with Faison regarding her decision to keep the pregnancy.

Prosecutors in Seminole County, Florida, are pursuing the death penalty for Faison, with the sentencing scheduled for Wednesday. Following Kaylin’s tragic demise, it was revealed that she had gone to Coastline Park to meet someone she knew. Additionally, she was a mother to a 1-year-old boy.

Expressing relief at the conviction, Kaylin’s aunt, Tatiana Fiengo, mentioned that while it cannot bring Kaylin back, at least Faison won’t harm others. Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention highlight the prevalence of intimate partner violence, with a significant number of female homicide victims being killed by their current or former male partners.

Florida reported 1,361 homicides in 2023, resulting in a death rate of 6.5 per 100,000 individuals. In comparison, England and Wales recorded 590 homicide victims in the year ending March 2023, despite having a population nearly three times that of Florida.
