Jessica Ennis-Hill, the Olympic champion, will be participating in Kevin Sinfield’s ongoing initiative to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in Sheffield. Ennis-Hill, a resident of Sheffield, has committed to running alongside Sinfield during the fourth leg of his ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge on Thursday.
Sinfield, who commenced his week-long ultra marathon endeavor on Monday, aims to complete a marathon every day for seven consecutive days. This marks Sinfield’s sixth annual campaign in support of MND charities, having already raised over £10 million. The funds raised have contributed to the establishment of a pioneering center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.
Inspired by his former teammate and close friend Rob Burrow’s battle with MND, Sinfield’s remarkable efforts have garnered global recognition. Ennis-Hill’s involvement in Sinfield’s current challenge as a prominent figure adds significant momentum to raising awareness for MND.
A celebrated heptathlon Olympic gold medalist in 2012 and a three-time world champion, Ennis-Hill transitioned into a successful media career post-retirement from athletics. She serves as a patron for various charities, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield remains steadfast in his quest to find a cure for MND, emphasizing the continuous need for advocacy. The recent diagnosis of England World Cup winner Lewis Moody with MND serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing battle against the disease. Moody plans to host a fundraising dinner in April and organize a charity bike ride in 2026.
Following the Sheffield leg of his challenge, Sinfield will proceed to Cumbria, Scotland, and conclude the marathon series in Leeds on Sunday. For further details on the initiative, visit https://www.therhinos.co.uk/the-club/sinfield-together-2025.
