Labour MP Calvin Bailey expressed his disapproval of what he deemed as “racist” remarks made by Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin and Tory MP Robert Jenrick. Bailey, a former Royal Air Force member, criticized their comments, emphasizing the importance of diversity in shaping society.
Jenrick faced backlash for his comments about lacking diversity during a visit to Birmingham, while Pochin’s statement about seeing adverts featuring Black and Asian individuals also drew criticism. Bailey highlighted the significance of Remembrance Sunday in honoring veterans who stood for unity and dignity.
Bailey emphasized the need to reflect on the type of society we want to build today, urging for a just and inclusive environment. He condemned the divisive rhetoric from opposition MPs, labeling their remarks as racist and exclusionary. Bailey stressed that diversity enriches British society and called out the MPs for their divisive views.
As a Black British veteran and Member of Parliament, Bailey vowed to speak up against any form of exclusion or discrimination. He underscored the importance of upholding values of unity and optimism for the future, urging for a country that embraces all its citizens.
Bailey concluded by emphasizing the importance of working towards national renewal with a focus on decency and progress, rather than division and decline. He called for a society that values every individual as an integral part of its past, present, and future.
