Kenyan officials have reported a small aircraft crash in the coastal area of Kwale, resulting in 12 individuals feared dead. The incident occurred today as the plane was en route to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, crashing approximately 25 miles from the Diani airstrip in a hilly region.

Stephen Orinde, the Kwale County Commissioner, stated that all the passengers were foreign tourists, with their nationalities to be confirmed later. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has initiated an investigation into the crash, although the specific breakdown of crew versus passengers remains unknown. The aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff, catching fire and leaving charred debris at the crash site.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise and discovering unidentifiable human remains at the scene. Mombasa Air Safari, the airline involved, mentioned collaborating with aviation authorities to provide updates on the incident. The Maasai Mara National Reserve, known for the annual wildebeest migration from the Serengeti, is a renowned tourist destination.
