Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to make history with a rematch at The Las Vegas Sphere in September, marking the first professional boxing event to be held at this venue. The two iconic boxers previously faced off in what was known as the ‘Fight of the Century’ in 2015, with Mayweather emerging as the winner. Despite both fighters retiring, they are now gearing up for a highly anticipated rematch.
Netflix has confirmed that Mayweather Pacquiao II will take place on September 19 at The Las Vegas Sphere, following their successful streaming of Anthony Joshua’s fight with Jake Paul in December. The upcoming rematch is expected to break records in terms of revenue, with their previous encounter generating massive pay-per-view buys and gate receipts.
Mayweather reportedly earned $250 million in the first fight, while Pacquiao pocketed $150 million. The rematch will put Mayweather’s undefeated 50-0 record on the line in what promises to be a professionally sanctioned battle. Pacquiao expressed his eagerness for the rematch, emphasizing the global streaming aspect through Netflix and his determination to secure a victory for his fans and his country, the Philippines.
Mayweather, on the other hand, remains confident in his ability to replicate his previous success against Pacquiao. Both fighters are expected to have warm-up bouts before their rematch, with Pacquiao scheduled to face Ruslan Provodnikov and Mayweather likely to fight Mike Tyson. This historic event will headline The Sphere, making it the first boxing event at the venue and only the second sports event overall after UFC 306 in September 2024.
