A mother who consumed wine at a British airport before causing a disturbance when denied boarding due to intoxication has attributed her behavior to “burnout”.
Leanne Burns, a 44-year-old mother of two, had organized a trip to Faro, Portugal, during last year’s October half term. Upon arrival at Manchester Airport, she ensured her children, aged eight and five, had food and drinks before ordering a drink for herself at the bar. Subsequently, she purchased a bottle of wine from duty-free and continued drinking.
However, when it was time to board the plane, Leanne was prevented from doing so. In response, she started “shouting and screaming” and insisting on being allowed onto the aircraft. Consequently, she was detained, barred from the airline, and spent a night in custody before being released without charges the following day.
Nearly a year later, Leanne has withdrawn from social media, sought counseling, and focused on “eliminating negativity” from her life.
As a care worker, Leanne acknowledged her mistake, expressing her desire to move forward and reestablish her social life. She reflected on feeling overwhelmed and burnt out at the time of the incident, attributing it to her hectic schedule, which included running the London Marathon and taking her children to Turkey in the same year.
Highlighting the events leading to her arrest, Leanne recollected her actions at the airport, detailing her attempts to balance her children’s happiness with her own stress levels. She admitted to overindulging in alcohol and causing a scene when denied boarding.
Following the incident, Leanne, residing in Liverpool, committed to making positive changes in her life. She underwent cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and advised others on the dangers of burnout, emphasizing the importance of seeking help and engaging in self-care practices.
Leanne’s journey serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of neglecting one’s well-being and the importance of seeking support to overcome personal challenges.
