A manhunt is in progress after a shooting incident at a casino complex resulted in one fatality and another person being wounded. The Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue team responded to the situation at the MGM National Harbor Hotel & Casino in Oxon Hill, Maryland, around 12:20 pm local time.
Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene, and law enforcement officers are currently conducting an investigation. Authorities have stated that the shooting was targeted and not a random act of violence, with one individual confirmed dead.
According to George Nader, the chief of police in Prince George’s County, the suspect approached the victim while they were ordering food and immediately opened fire before fleeing in a vehicle. As a precautionary measure, the area was put on lockdown, including some local schools, although there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Nader revealed in a media briefing that the shooting was not a random occurrence and appeared to be a targeted attack. The incident was confined to the food court area within the casino, and the rest of the hotel and casino remains open to the public.
Although some schools in the vicinity were closed as a precaution, authorities have assured that the community is not at risk. The police are actively searching for the suspect who fled the scene, as the investigation continues to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In an official statement, the Prince George’s County Police Department confirmed the fatality on-site and indicated that the shooting did not seem random. Reports suggest that multiple individuals were injured during the incident at the casino complex, which triggered the response from the local fire and rescue team and ongoing investigation by law enforcement.
