England’s cricket team will have a curfew in place for the upcoming T20 World Cup following recent incidents in New Zealand and Australia. The team faced disappointing results in their last two tours, with added attention on off-the-field behavior involving alcohol.
England suffered defeats in both the One-Day International series in New Zealand and the Ashes tournament in Australia. Concerns were raised about the team’s conduct during a mid-series outing in Noosa, and a subsequent incident involving Test vice-captain Harry Brook outside a nightclub in New Zealand led to his public apology.
To address these issues, the England and Wales Cricket Board has implemented a curfew for the players. They are required to return to the team hotel before midnight and reminded of their responsibilities as representatives of the team. The team is set to play matches against Sri Lanka before heading to India and Sri Lanka for the T20 World Cup.
The ECB is under scrutiny following the disappointing Ashes campaign. Director of cricket Rob Key faced questions about the team’s drinking culture, emphasizing the importance of responsible behavior for international cricket players.
A review has been initiated by ECB chief executive Richard Gould post-Ashes to assess tour planning, individual performance, and behavior standards. The focus is on improving adaptability and response strategies to varying circumstances.
