David Harbour’s ‘sinister’ message to Lily Allen has resurfaced alongside the launch of her latest album. Within her new music piece, West End Girl, Lily delves into the end of her marriage to the actor from Stranger Things.
In one song, she seems to allude to the person David supposedly cheated on her with, while in another, she reflects on her transition to acting upon her return to London after relocating to New York City for him. Lily suggests that things took a turn for the worse upon her return to the UK.
Through her new songs, Lily sings: “I said I got some good news I got the lead in a play, that’s when your demeanour started to change,” a direct nod to her role in 2:22 A Ghost Story.
Lily was nominated for a Laurence Olivier award for her performance in the play and shared a note from David during that time. Initially perceived as humorous, fans now view the note as “sinister.”
The note penned by David to his wife stated: “My ambitious wife, these are bad luck flowers, ’cause if you get reviewed well in this play you will get all kinds of awards and I’ll be miserable. Your loving husband.”
Fans have offered mixed reactions to the note, with one remarking on its sarcastic and dark humor. However, another pointed out the lack of support in the message, highlighting the need for encouragement during such moments.
Lily has openly discussed how her new album encapsulates various emotions, including feelings of “abandonment.” She expressed her struggles with rejection and abandonment, particularly following the end of her marriage, revealing her co-dependent nature and the challenges of finding happiness within herself.
