“Darts Pros Compete for $200K Prize in Riyadh Debut”

Luke Littler and his opponents are set to vie for a $200,000 (£149,000) prize in Riyadh next week if they can achieve a nine-dart finish followed by a ‘golden bull.’ The World Series of Darts is making its debut in Saudi Arabia, featuring a lineup of eight PDC Tour players against eight Asian Tour representatives, promising a lucrative opportunity in the upcoming two-day tournament starting on Monday.

In this unique competition, hitting a nine-darter will secure a $100,000 (£74,700) reward with the added chance to double the prize by hitting a single ‘golden’ dart at the bullseye. This opportunity marks the largest payout in darting history for a nine-dart finish, with Luke Littler, a recent record-breaking World Championship winner, eagerly eyeing the potential windfall.

The new incentive in darts mirrors the format of the Riyadh Season Snooker Championship, introducing the “Riyadh Season golden ball,” a 20-point golden cue ball that could lead to the sport’s first-ever 167 break and a $1 million (£760,000) bonus. Positioned at the center of the baulk cushion at the beginning of each frame, the golden ‘Riyadh Season ball’ remains on the table until a maximum break of 147 becomes unattainable.

Former World Championship semi-finalist Mark Webster highlighted the prize structure, emphasizing the $100,000 reward for a nine-dart finish and an additional $100,000 for hitting the bullseye with the next dart, making a total of $200,000 for a flawless performance.

Joining Littler in Riyadh are notable darts players including Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Gian van Veen, Gerwyn Price, Stephen Bunting, Nathan Aspinall, and Danny Noppert. Currently, they are competing in the Bahrain Masters, the first event following Littler’s double world championship win, where impressive performances have already been witnessed.
