AP McCoy and Barry Geraghty Weigh In on Constitution Hill’s Racing Future

Sir AP McCoy has shared his thoughts on the future direction for Constitution Hill, a once-promising jumps horse. Constitution Hill, who triumphed at the 2023 Champion Hurdle, had a flawless record of ten wins before encountering setbacks at the Cheltenham Festival and subsequent races.

Despite high expectations, Constitution Hill faced early exits at major events like the Grand National meeting at Aintree and the Punchestown Champion Hurdle. Trainer Nicky Henderson conducted a thorough assessment during the summer to prepare Constitution Hill for a comeback at the Fighting Fifth Hurdle in Newcastle.

Unfortunately, the horse’s misfortune continued as he fell at the second hurdle during the race won by Golden Ace. Henderson, however, remains optimistic about Constitution Hill’s future and is contemplating transitioning the horse to flat racing. McCoy shared his insights on the situation during an episode of William Hill’s Inside Track.

While McCoy emphasized the resilience of Constitution Hill as a racehorse, Barry Geraghty, another William Hill ambassador involved in the horse’s purchase, suggested exploring rehabilitation options for improving the horse’s jumping skills before making any decisions. Geraghty recommended considering unconventional methods, possibly with expert Yogi Breisner, to address the jumping issues and stressed the importance of carefully evaluating the next steps for Constitution Hill.
