Nicki Minaj surprised attendees at a political convention hosted by Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, by expressing admiration for Donald Trump and JD Vance. The renowned rapper, known as Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, commended the US President and Vice-President as “role models” for young men during her appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference alongside Erika Kirk.
Charlie Kirk, the late founder of Turning Point USA, was succeeded by his wife, Erika, who now leads the conservative activist group. Minaj, interviewed by Erika Kirk at the Arizona event, discussed her newfound support for Trump and her efforts to denounce violence against Christians in Nigeria.
Addressing the gathered Republicans, Minaj praised the administration for their compassion and authenticity, stating her admiration for both the President and Vice-President for their relatable qualities. In an unfortunate slip of words, she mistakenly referred to JD Vance as an “assassin,” causing a moment of awkwardness that she later regretted.
Despite the mishap, Erika Kirk graciously handled the situation, acknowledging Minaj’s support and resilience amidst criticism from the entertainment industry for backing Trump. Minaj, emphasizing the importance of voicing diverse opinions, expressed her frustration at being stifled and encouraged critical thinking.
During the event, Erika Kirk also endorsed JD Vance, indicating his potential candidacy for the White House in the upcoming election. Minaj, known for her recent public endorsement of Trump’s policies, highlighted her gratitude for the freedom of worship in the US and shared a message from the President regarding Christian persecution in Nigeria.
Previously critical of Trump’s immigration policies, Minaj had voiced opposition to the separation of migrant children from their families at the US-Mexico border in 2018. Despite her evolving stance on political matters, Minaj’s endorsement of Trump has sparked both support and controversy within her fanbase and the broader entertainment community.
