Bondi Beach Shooter Update: Surviving Suspect’s Condition Revealed

Police have provided an update on the condition of the surviving alleged shooter involved in the incident at Bondi Beach. The event took place at approximately 6:40 pm on Sunday, December 14, 2025, prompting emergency services to respond to reports of a shooting in a public area. Law enforcement officers, including those from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command and other specialized units, quickly intervened and engaged two armed individuals firing into crowds.

A confrontation ensued, leading to an exchange of gunfire between police and the two shooters. Two officers sustained gunshot injuries during the incident, with one of the assailants, a 50-year-old man, being fatally shot by the police at the scene. The other gunman, identified as 24-year-old Naveed Akram, sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital under police supervision. NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon has issued an update on Akram’s medical condition.

Commissioner Lanyon emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and limited information will be disclosed at this time. Following the tragic events that resulted in 16 fatalities, Lanyon mentioned during a press conference that the 24-year-old suspect currently hospitalized may potentially face criminal charges based on his health status. He underscored the importance of avoiding any statements that could prejudice a future legal proceeding.

In response to the incident, Premier Chris Minns expressed the need for legislative changes regarding firearms regulations in New South Wales. Minns indicated that discussions on reforms are underway, with a potential recall of parliament to expedite the process. The Premier stressed the intention to implement lasting changes that will have a significant impact, promising prompt action in the near future.

Various investigations are underway following the shooting, including a joint counterterrorism probe led by the police counterterrorism command and a critical incident inquiry. Enhanced police presence is evident in the Bondi area, with more than 320 officers deployed, and additional off-duty personnel traveling to support their colleagues on the ground.
