“High-Pressure System May Disrupt Freeview Signals”

While much of the United Kingdom is poised to bask in delightful warm conditions this weekend, a high-pressure system ushering in the sunshine may pose challenges for Freeview users.

It is widely acknowledged that TV signals do not fare well under the current atmospheric circumstances, which could spell trouble for those intending to catch their favorite programs in the coming days. Confirming this, the BBC highlighted that high pressure can create two primary issues for TV signals, potentially leading to weakened reception and signal interference with local services.

Elaborating on this, the BBC stated: “High pressure is not easily detectable and is commonly linked with warm weather, although it can occur at any time of the year.

“This can give rise to two main issues. Firstly, you might receive a weaker signal as the transmission from your local broadcaster is elevated higher into the atmosphere. Secondly, signals from distant transmitters could disrupt your reception.”

The current warm spell and high-pressure conditions are anticipated to persist until Monday, prompting Freeview to issue essential advice to its vast audience.

Freeview cautioned: “Some viewers in various parts of the UK may encounter disruptions in TV reception from Friday, April 24 to Sunday, April 26, 2026, due to the impact of high pressure on Freeview signals.

“It is recommended not to retune your TV during this period. Normal reception is expected to resume once the high-pressure system moves on.”

These weather-related disruptions can occur multiple times annually, but there are strategies to continue enjoying your preferred programs.

For individuals with modern smart TVs featuring internet connectivity, switching to Freeview Play enables access to live or on-demand content online instead of relying on traditional aerial signals.

Freeview noted that internet-enabled TVs with channel apps can still stream services like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and Channel 5.

Alternatively, viewers can utilize the Freeview mobile app, which is available for free download.
