Survey Reveals UK’s Fascination with US Pop Culture

Three in 10 individuals in the UK are more knowledgeable about Donald Trump than Prince Charles, according to recent research. A survey of 2,000 adults found that 30% are equally familiar with American pop culture as their own. The study revealed that 40% of the daily information absorbed by participants is from the US, with 23% showing a preference for Taylor Swift’s music over Dua Lipa’s.

Furthermore, nearly 10% have more insight into the romantic lives of actors Zendaya and Tom Holland than into the Royal family. This percentage increases to 29% for individuals aged 18 to 24. Interestingly, 34% of the younger demographic are better informed about the Kardashians than the popular British TV show EastEnders.

A representative from Lottoland.co.uk, which conducted the survey in conjunction with its US £520 million Powerball draw, commented, “There is an abundance of fascinating US culture readily available for consumption.”

“From television, movies, and music to food and beverages, the US offers a wealth of content that has made its way to the UK. Even political discussions are a common topic,” they added.

The study also highlighted that 18% of respondents watch more American television than British shows, with drama, comedy, and crime being the favored genres from the US.

Regarding music from America, pop, rock, and country music are the top genres, with 88% of individuals claiming to appreciate some form of American culture in their British lives.

Apart from TV and music, Americans also enjoy American cuisine (37%), literature (24%), and sports (17%). Additionally, 15% celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, while one in 10 observe Independence Day on July 4th.

Moreover, the research found that Netflix, Hollywood blockbusters, and Coca-Cola are considered the best exports from America, closely followed by Rock and Roll, Disneyland, and instant coffee.

A spokesperson from Lottoland.co.uk remarked, “It is wonderful to witness a cultural exchange between nations. We owe a lot to the US.”

“It is difficult to imagine what the country would be like without Netflix, Hollywood films, or Coca-Cola.”
