A 74-year-old man in Belgium has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually assaulting a young boy with Down’s syndrome. Although the defendant denied the accusations, inconsistencies arose in his explanations for being in the shower with the child. Physical signs of abuse were corroborated by a medical examination, and a psychological evaluation characterized the ex-GP as having a narcissistic personality.
In a prior trial in September, the man was initially given a five-year sentence, with the prosecution advocating for a longer prison term due to the victim’s vulnerability. Meanwhile, the ex-doctor’s legal team sought an acquittal or a suspended sentence. This case emerges amidst a distressing revelation in France involving a paedophile surgeon, Joel Le Scouarnec, who was found guilty of sexually exploiting numerous individuals, primarily underage patients, over an extended period.

His despicable actions were unraveled through electronic diaries chronicling decades of abuse on young patients in medical facilities across western France.
