Sunderland has been identified as the most budget-friendly city in England, where the average monthly payments represent 17% of the typical monthly salary. The average price for a one or two-bedroom property in Sunderland is £106,700, while the average income for a single individual is £28,600.
Across the London region, Havering has been recognized as the most affordable borough by Zoopla, with the average cost of a one or two-bedroom home at £305,200, approximately 7.3 times the average earnings of £41,600 for a single buyer.
In Scotland, Aberdeen emerges as the most affordable location for single buyers, with average monthly mortgage payments totaling £438, based on an average property value of £114,700.
For those looking in Wales, Swansea offers the most affordable housing options, with an average property price of £149,000 and typical monthly mortgage payments of £569.
Zoopla highlights the challenges faced by single buyers in the housing market, as lenders typically evaluate affordability based on a single income rather than dual incomes.
The analysis conducted by the property website focused on prices of smaller homes with one or two bedrooms, comparing them with the average incomes of single earners. It was noted that single buyers account for approximately 39% of first-time property purchases.
