A man with two children tragically passed away in an unusual incident when his toy airplane struck him, causing severe injuries. Roger Wallace, aged 60, was piloting the 5-foot-wide model aircraft at the Pima County Fairgrounds in Tuscon, Arizona, when the accident occurred. Losing sight of the plane due to sunlight, the approximately 6.6-pound aircraft inflicted significant harm to his heart and lung. Despite efforts from friends and emergency responders, Roger could not be revived and was declared deceased at the location.
Roger had been an active member of the Southern Arizona Modelers, a group dedicated to radio-controlled airplanes, for a period of three years. According to Club President Jerry Knebel, the incident was highly unusual and described it as an extreme accident. Roger, who had previously owned an auto parts store and was contemplating retirement, transitioned to working for new owners. Before joining the model airplane club, he had been involved in drag racing but sought a safer hobby.
Knebel mentioned that Roger had expressed belief in the safety of flying compared to drag racing and had joined the club for that reason. The club adhered strictly to safety guidelines set by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, always assigning a safety officer during flights. Knebel emphasized the club’s excellent safety record, boasting no accidents in many years. Roger was remembered in his obituary as a kind and lively individual who will be dearly missed by his loved ones.
In a separate incident, Tang Feiji, a prominent online personality in Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province, China, met a tragic end during a live broadcast when his twin-rotor aircraft suddenly crashed in Jiange County. Despite pleas from viewers to seek emergency assistance, Tang, aged 55, succumbed to the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. Known for his aerial content, Tang had amassed a significant following on the Chinese social media platform Douyin.
