A man who contacted law enforcement to report his own child ended up revealing his own alleged mistreatment after authorities uncovered disturbing details.
Thomas Barker, aged 44, faces charges of inappropriate behavior towards a minor following a call he made stating that his 11-year-old son was being disobedient and not heeding instructions. However, the situation took a turn when police arrived at his residence.
A statement released by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook disclosed that Barker was implicated in the incident, allegedly issuing threats to the child over a meal request.
The child recounted to deputies that when he asked for food, he received hostile responses, including violent language and threats. The incident was reportedly captured on video footage provided to the sheriff’s office.
Additionally, Baker reportedly made it clear he would not assist his son, even in emergencies, making concerning statements to the child. The child has been relocated to a family member’s care following the incident.
Separately, a father has been charged with multiple counts of child abuse after subjecting his three young children, aged two, four, and eight, to a challenging hike in rugged terrain.
Heart-wrenching phone footage from the hike showed the man’s daughter expressing fear about freezing to death during the excursion.
Initially perceived as a harmless outing, the hike turned perilous as the children, inadequately dressed for the conditions, became frightened for their safety while their father persisted with the climb despite their pleas to turn back.
Court documents revealed that what began as a simple hike quickly transformed into a nightmare as the father prioritized summiting the mountain over the well-being of his children. The children repeatedly expressed discomfort and eagerness to return home, highlighting the father’s lack of preparedness and self-centered behavior.
