A 15-year-old girl from Utah was tragically shot at close range in the head by her 16-year-old boyfriend, according to authorities in Ogden, located north of Salt Lake City. Chanelle Alvarez was found dead in her bedroom after the gunshot, with the suspect, Hezekiah Plummer, seen fleeing the scene holding a firearm, as reported by local media outlets.
Plummer allegedly mentioned a “robbery” and implicated another individual in the incident before being arrested in a neighboring county with cash and a small amount of marijuana. Police stated that he had disposed of the weapon prior to his apprehension. Chanelle’s mother informed officials that Plummer arrived at their residence around 1 am the day of the incident.
The teenager is facing charges of first-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and firearm theft, and will be prosecuted as an adult. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist Alvarez’s family with funeral expenses, describing the loss of Chanelle as heartbreaking and emphasizing her vibrant personality and infectious laughter.
The family clarified that Chanelle’s death resulted from domestic violence, highlighting the deep pain caused by such situations and expressing hope that her story raises awareness and safeguards for others. Chanelle, a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, was remembered for her lively nature and compassion by the church’s pastor, Jeff Stephenson.
