Octopus Energy CEO Addresses Customer Concerns on Tariff Changes

Octopus Energy CEO Greg Jackson has addressed concerns raised by customers over the company’s decision to implement early termination charges on its latest fixed-rate tariffs.

The leading household energy provider in the UK has raised prices on fixed-rate tariffs and introduced exit fees due to the surge in oil and gas prices following the recent conflict in Iran.

Renowned consumer advocate Martin Lewis revealed that Octopus Energy customers have been reaching out to him regarding the new policy change.

In response to a social media post, Greg Jackson explained that the company had taken similar measures during a previous energy price spike, and these actions are temporary responses to the current market conditions.

Amidst the current market volatility, many energy suppliers have withdrawn their fixed-price tariff offerings, leading to a significant reduction in available options, as reported by Uswitch.

While energy prices are expected to decrease starting in April with the announcement of the new Ofgem price cap, experts anticipate a subsequent increase of around 10% from July, mainly driven by higher gas prices.

Cornwall Insight analysts have projected a substantial rise in the Ofgem price cap for the July-September period, with estimates reaching £1,801 annually, subject to fluctuations in the ongoing Middle East conflict and wholesale energy prices.
