A man involved in a disturbing case where a six-year-old girl was kept as a ‘sex slave’ has avoided the death penalty by agreeing to plea deals. The shocking incident unfolded on June 11, 2024, when Daniel Callihan, 37, brutally attacked his former partner, Callie Brunett, 35, with over 50 stab wounds. He then abducted Brunett’s two young daughters, aged six and four, and drove them more than 130 miles away.
Tragically, Callihan asphyxiated the four-year-old after sexually assaulting her, with alleged assistance from Victoria Cox, 34. The older sister was then subjected to horrific abuse while confined in a squalid pit alongside her deceased sibling. When the girls were reported missing, Callie’s body was discovered, leading authorities to track down the stolen vehicle to Callihan’s residence in Mississippi.
During the subsequent investigation, law enforcement located the surviving child at the property, where the younger girl had tragically succumbed to suffocation. Callihan was apprehended after revealing the location where he had imprisoned the six-year-old, leading to his life sentence following a guilty plea for multiple charges. Cox, charged as an accessory, awaits trial after entering a not guilty plea.
In a disturbing twist, Callihan attempted to attribute his actions to the side effects of antidepressants, expressing remorse and acknowledging the severity of his crimes. Brandi Hosch, Callie’s sister, condemned Callihan in court, describing him as a “demon” and highlighting the profound impact on their family. The FBI and various law enforcement agencies involved in the case expressed commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and their community.
