Over 50 seniors, ranging from 60 to 92 years old, have already enjoyed the thrill of a lifetime through this program, which aims to combat loneliness among older adults.
Mark Cody, 36, the mastermind behind the project, was inspired to make a positive impact after the tragic loss of his grandmother to suicide during the pandemic. He has coordinated free rides for seniors in luxury vehicles like a borrowed Lamborghini, a McLaren GT, and a Ferrari, with the most expensive car being a £220,000 Lamborghini Huracan Performante. Generous supercar owners, including those with Aston Martins and classic cars like the AC Cobra, have joined in to support the cause.
The overwhelming response from both participants and supporters has left Mark amazed. Recipients of the rides have expressed feeling like “rock stars” and much younger during the experience. The joy and emotional impact on the elderly passengers have been profound, with trips to scenic locations like the Peaks near Sheffield adding to the excitement.
One memorable journey involved taking 92-year-old Bessie Watts for a birthday celebration ride in a McLaren, where neighbors cheered her on as she embarked on the adventure. The sense of thrill and happiness radiated by the seniors, such as Betty Tynan, who described her Lamborghini ride as “fantastic,” highlights the positive impact of the Gran-borghini project.
For Mark, this initiative is not only a way to honor his late grandmother’s memory but also a means to spread joy and combat loneliness among older individuals.
