A fundraising campaign purportedly initiated by Christian Brueckner, the prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, has been launched on GoFundMe, appealing for donations to facilitate his departure from Germany. Brueckner, a convicted rapist, recently completed a seven-year prison term for assaulting a 72-year-old woman in Portugal. Expressing his desire to relocate, he seeks €26,000 (£22,860) to exit Germany legally and escape what he describes as relentless scrutiny and public condemnation. The campaign aimed to gather funds for his travel expenses, with Brueckner suggesting that even a small donation could aid his journey to a country beyond German authorities’ reach.
Following his release from prison, Brueckner, 48, faced backlash from locals in his new residence in northern Germany, prompting a petition for his eviction and a community meeting to address the issue. Amid escalating tensions, he was relocated by authorities to southern Germany in an attempt to evade further public scrutiny. Despite briefly accumulating €100 in donations, the GoFundMe campaign was promptly removed for breaching the platform’s terms of service. GoFundMe confirmed that donors had been refunded, emphasizing their commitment to upholding ethical fundraising standards.
