Donald Trump is forming a coalition of antagonists with the aim of undermining the United Nations, and Tony Blair is lending support to this endeavor.
The genesis of Trump’s initiative to establish this unconventional SPECTRE alliance can be linked to two key incidents. Firstly, his disdain for Barack Obama, exacerbated by the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Obama, ignited a personal ambition for a Nobel Prize of his own. This ambition led him to insert himself into efforts to resolve the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
Initially focused on fostering peace and facilitating the reconstruction of Gaza, the Board of Peace, under Trump’s direction, expanded its objectives following a disruptive incident during Trump’s UN speech in September. Convinced that technical glitches during his speech were part of a deliberate plot to ridicule him, Trump began contemplating the abolition of the United Nations in favor of a new entity, potentially with him at the helm.
Presently, Trump has unveiled the lineup for the Board of Peace, highlighting its global mandate and his perpetual chairmanship. Notably, Tony Blair’s involvement in the initiative, seemingly spurred by his relationship with Jared Kushner and his track record in Middle East conflict resolution, remains somewhat enigmatic.
Despite expectations of unease from Blair regarding Trump’s ambitious plans to transform Gaza into a luxurious resort, constructed on the remnants of Palestinian residences, Blair remains actively engaged in the initiative. Even as the UK hesitated to participate in a group including Russia, Blair prominently attended the launch event in Davos as a member of the executive board.
During the formal establishment of the Board of Peace, Trump introduced the supervillains comprising his “Evil UN,” solidifying his position as their enduring leader. Notable attendees included Viktor Orban, Hungary’s authoritarian Prime Minister, and Javier Milei, the President of Argentina, known for suppressing dissent and indebted to the US for his re-election support.
The presence of leaders from various nations, ranging from Bahrain to the UAE, underscored the global reach of this new organization. However, concerns arise from the composition of the membership, with only two out of the 20 nations meeting the criteria for a “free” status according to Freedom House.
Israel’s prospective membership faced a setback as Benjamin Netanyahu’s absence from the ceremony reflected concerns over potential war crime charges should he enter mainland Europe. Trump’s apparent aspiration to perpetuate his leadership beyond his presidential tenure through this coalition hints at a desire akin to becoming a “world king,” a notion that resonates with his long-standing ambitions.
Overall, Trump’s strategic maneuvering and Blair’s unexpected involvement in this controversial alliance signify a significant development in global geopolitics.
