Former Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson and her partner, professional dancer Gorka Marquez, who have been engaged for four years, have built a strong relationship since meeting on the set of Strictly Come Dancing in 2017. The couple, now parents to six-year-old Mia and two-year-old Thiago, have launched a new podcast called Lost in Translation.
In an interview with OK! magazine, Gemma and Gorka shared insights into their podcast and personal lives, discussing each other’s irritating habits and the cultural differences they face as a Spanish-Mancunian couple, particularly in terms of food preferences.
Gemma revealed her love for traditional English dishes like cheese pie and chippy tea with gravy, which Gorka finds unappealing. On the other hand, Gorka’s fondness for Spanish cured meat, like the large leg of ham he brings home at Christmas, does not sit well with Gemma.
Despite their differences, the couple acknowledged that their contrasting traits, such as Gorka’s perfectionism and Gemma’s more relaxed approach, contribute to the balance in their relationship. Gemma humorously mentioned their disagreements on sock folding, highlighting their unique dynamics.
Currently, Gorka is part of the judging panel on the Spanish version of Strictly, which has led to a shift in their family’s viewing habits. Gemma revealed that watching the show has become a cherished family tradition, with their children showing early signs of musical talent and dancing skills.
