A tragic incident unfolded during a Christmas tree lighting event in the US as multiple teenagers were shot, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old child. Chaos erupted at Chicago’s official Christmas light ceremony when around 300 young individuals stormed the event, leading to several gunshots being fired. Subsequently, Chicago police responded to a second shooting where two victims were found with gunshot wounds.
The 14-year-old boy sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Another victim, an 18-year-old male, suffered a serious leg injury from a gunshot wound and was also hospitalized. The shootings occurred around 10:40 pm.
Prior to this, at 9:50 pm, a large group gathered near the Chicago Theater, with gunshots heard and the group dispersing as officers arrived at the scene. Seven individuals, aged between 13 and 17, were found with gunshot wounds at the intersection of State and Randolph streets. Additionally, multiple police officers were attacked and injured by mace and stun guns, with at least one officer requiring hospitalization.
Courtney Spinelli, a WGNNews reporter, reported that a group appeared on the streets, shots were fired near the Chicago Theatre, and the youngest victim, a 13-year-old girl, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg but is in fair condition. Witness Linda Dixon described the chaotic scene outside the theater, emphasizing the disheartening nature of the incident during the holiday season.
Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
