Manchester United’s plans for a new £2 billion stadium might face delays as AC Milan and Inter Milan are also pursuing their stadium projects. The Italian clubs are collaborating with Foster + Partners, the firm responsible for designing Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 100,000-seat stadium, with a projected completion date of 2030.
Meanwhile, Foster + Partners has commenced work on designing the new 71,500-seater San Siro stadium, which will replace the existing structure. The development is expected to be finished by 2031, aligning with the upcoming European Championship. Manchester United, on the other hand, is in discussions with Freightliner to acquire additional land around Old Trafford for their project.
United emphasized their cooperation with Foster + Partners for the broader regeneration plan but clarified that no official construction contract has been awarded yet. The club remains optimistic about the proposed stadium vision, awaiting progress on land assembly and financing to move forward with detailed architectural work.
Acknowledging the need for collaboration, Manchester United has been engaging with the government and Trafford Council to realize their ambitious vision for Old Trafford. The club aims to host significant events like the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2035 at the revamped stadium.
