A Pennsylvania woman, Jessica Mauthe, 39, faced shocking revelations recently when authorities discovered four deceased infants in her residence following her eviction. In a court appearance before District Judge J. Gary DeComo, Mauthe pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal homicide, involuntary manslaughter, concealing the death of a child, and abuse of a corpse.
Witnesses testified during the hearing about the investigation into Mauthe. The case unfolded when her landlord found a deceased newborn in a closet, leading to the subsequent discovery of three more infants hidden in tote bags and buckets in the house’s loft.
According to Pennsylvania State troopers, the homicide charges relate to the most recent infant born 18 months ago, while the manslaughter charges stem from the first child born approximately six years ago. Mauthe allegedly provided unsettling details about each child’s delivery in the bathroom.
One trooper revealed that Mauthe recounted the infants’ births, with the first infant reportedly whimpering before Mauthe lost consciousness and awoke to find the child deceased. Details about the second and third infants’ conditions were ambiguous. Mauthe mentioned that the fourth child was allegedly murdered after birth in the toilet.
Mauthe admitted to holding the fourth infant for 15 to 20 minutes until it stopped making noise, unsure of the cause of death. Her defense attorney argued that evidence on the infants’ causes of death was lacking. Despite the defense’s stance, all charges against Mauthe were upheld, and she will face trial, remaining in custody without bail at Armstrong County Jail.
The date for Mauthe’s next court appearance is pending.
