Users of various devices, including Samsung models, are facing issues with the Gmail app, experiencing screen flickering, disappearing text, and blank white boxes while attempting to read and send emails. Concerned individuals have turned to social media platforms to express their frustrations. One user, Jeremiah, voiced his discontent on X, questioning when Android will function properly on folding phones like the Samsung Fold, citing ongoing flickering problems on the inner screen.
Similar grievances have emerged on Google’s support forums, with one user detailing their struggles with email readability due to continuous screen flickering despite attempts to troubleshoot the problem. Google product expert Kimiya Kitani has identified the root cause as a glitch with Android System WebView, a fundamental Android element enabling apps to exhibit web content internally.
Kitani acknowledged that certain devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are encountering intermittent issues with Android System WebView, which have been escalated to Google for resolution. Although the exact number of affected users remains unknown, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted.
While awaiting a permanent solution from Google, a temporary workaround has been suggested. Rotating the device has been identified as a potential stopgap measure to alleviate the screen flickering. By opening emails in portrait mode, rotating the device to landscape mode until the display stabilizes, and then returning to portrait mode, users may mitigate the flickering problem.
This interim fix offers a simple approach for users grappling with the Gmail app glitch, providing a temporary relief until an official resolution is implemented by Google.
