John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In a statement, Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider community to influence the organization’s future direction.
Tory’s tenure begins on October 1, as detailed in a recent news release. The upcoming festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his everlasting pride in contributing to the festival’s evolution.
Additionally, TIFF introduced three new board members, Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. The organization bid farewell to Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, expressing gratitude for her dedicated service and valuable contributions.
