Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of John F Kennedy, has disclosed that she has been diagnosed with terminal blood cancer and has less than a year to live. She was diagnosed with myeloid leukaemia shortly after giving birth to her daughter last year. The 35-year-old environmental journalist shared her treatment journey in the New Yorker magazine on the anniversary of JFK’s assassination. Tatiana was diagnosed in May 2024 when her doctor noticed an unusual white blood cell count.
Despite being known as one of the healthiest individuals she knew, Tatiana had no prior symptoms of illness. Following the discovery of an imbalance in her white blood cell count, she underwent tests and was diagnosed with a rare mutation known as Inversion 3, which is not treatable by standard methods. She has since undergone two bone-marrow transplants, chemotherapy, and blood transfusions, and in 2025, she participated in a clinical trial for CAR-T-cell therapy.
Expressing the impact her diagnosis has had on her family, Tatiana expressed guilt for adding another tragedy to her mother’s life. She mentioned her concerns about her children not remembering her and the challenges she faced in caring for her newborn due to infection risks post-transplants. Tatiana also criticized her second cousin, RFK Jr, for cutting cancer funding and promoting vaccine skepticism, labeling him an embarrassment to the family.
The Kennedy family has faced numerous tragedies over the years, leading to speculations about a supposed “Kennedy Curse.” From JFK’s assassination in 1963 to Robert Kennedy’s tragic death in 1968, the family has endured profound losses. Caroline’s late uncle, John F Kennedy Jr, along with his wife and sister-in-law, perished in a plane crash in 1999. Mary Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy Jr’s ex-wife, also succumbed tragically to the so-called curse in 2012.
The Kennedy family’s history has been marked by various misfortunes, contributing to the enduring fascination with the notion of a curse. Despite their achievements and prominence, the family has been plagued by untimely deaths and personal tragedies, leaving a somber legacy that continues to captivate public interest.
