Formula One Cancels Bahrain and Saudi Grands Prix

Formula One is expected to call off the upcoming Grands Prix in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia due to the ongoing conflict in the region. The races were initially planned for April as part of the 2026 season, with Bahrain GP scheduled for April 10-12 and the Saudi Arabian City of Jeddah for the following weekend.

The decision to cancel both events comes as a result of the conflict involving Iran, the USA, and Israel in the region. As reported by Sky Sports, the number of races for this season will now be reduced from 24 to 22. Both Formula One and the FIA have not officially commented on the matter yet.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed concern on social media, stating that safety and well-being are paramount in evaluating future events for both the FIA World Endurance Championship and the FIA Formula One World Championship. He emphasized the importance of unity during these challenging times.

Peter Bayer, the chief executive of Racing Bulls, also shared his thoughts, acknowledging the complex situation in the Middle East and expressing trust in the FIA’s decision-making process for the team. With the cancellation of both races, there will be no Formula One action in April, leading to a five-week gap before the Miami GP in early May.

Meanwhile, in Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix, British driver George Russell is set to lead Saturday’s Sprint. George Russell, representing Mercedes, currently leads the early driver standings with 25 points after his success in Melbourne. Teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli follows closely in second place.

Sky has expanded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to include various streaming services along with comprehensive coverage of Formula 1. The network offers exclusive broadcasting of practices, qualifiers, races, as well as coverage of other sports like the Premier League, EFL, darts, and golf.
