“Vandal Targets Cricket Club and Cemetery in Ashford”

Security camera footage has captured the moment an individual vandalized a cricket club with offensive graffiti and later targeted a nearby cemetery. The Willesborough Cemetery in Ashford was recently defaced with disturbing tags, causing distress to grieving families. The same perpetrator, dressed in black with a hood, was caught on camera spraying similar inappropriate symbols on the cricket club’s wall and causing extensive damage, including tearing down ashtrays.

Willesborough Cricket Club has been repeatedly victimized since July, with authorities suspecting the same individual to be behind each incident. According to a club spokesperson, the suspect, who strikes between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, caused damage on several occasions, with the latest vandalism occurring on October 16. The continuous acts of vandalism have resulted in an estimated £2,000 in damages, with potential additional costs for repainting affected areas.

The club expressed frustration over the ongoing destruction, which not only impacts its facilities but also diverts funds from community cricket improvements. The individual’s repeated trespassing and damage have raised concerns among club members and authorities. Meanwhile, the offensive graffiti at the cemetery, discovered on October 10, has prompted the installation of protective fencing around the site.

Police are actively investigating the incidents at the cricket club, while the Ashford Borough Council is addressing the damage at the cemetery. Kent Police are reviewing CCTV footage as part of their inquiries, although any direct link between the two cases has not been confirmed. The council has initiated cleaning and restoration efforts at the cemetery to rectify the damage and ensure the site’s preservation, acknowledging its significance to the local community.
